Bill: Morality Act (2181)
Details
Submitted by[?]: Deltarian Nationalist Party
Status[?]: defeated
Votes: This is an ordinary bill. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.
Voting deadline: August 2183
Description[?]:
Violent and hardcore pornography should not be broadcast on television as no matter what time it is put on there will still be some children who will manage to watch it. Banning it on television would not solve the problem entirely but it would stop more children from being exposed to it. |
Proposals
Article 1

Old value:: All sexually explicit material is allowed on television.
Current: Sexually explicit material is allowed, but violent or hard core pornography is banned.
Proposed: Sexually explicit material is allowed, but violent or hard core pornography is banned.

Message | Why not? Why should it not be shown on at times when children should not be watching televsion. Sex is a fact of life and though we could accept regulation as to limitations on the broadcasting of such material (perhaps pay-per-view channels with encryption limited between the hours of X and Y) we should not be telling our citizens what they can and cannot watch on television (exception of maybe public service broadcasting?). |

Message | So violent sex is a fact of life and any sexual encounter you have ever hard could be likened to that in a hardcore porn film? Porn films are not life based, they are wild exagerations and stereotypes. |

Message | Why ban it from TV? Other regulations mean that all involved parties must be consenting adults meaning there should be no reason to stop it appearing on pay-to-view television to stop people accidentally viewing it. |

Message | Hardcore pornography is only the showing of an erect penis. As for violent sex, as long as it is completely consenting from all parties involved why not allow it? "Porn films are not life based, they are wild exagerations and stereotypes." - Of course they are, their primary function is for entertainment, how depressing would it be if every porn flick was based solely on real life? |

Message | @WSS!P:- You are just by saying that sex is part of life, so do you now retract that point of your argument as now you agree that porn is not life based and therefore has no relevance to sex in real life. @UB:- You are happy to allow violent pornographic films in such a public medium as television whether on normal or pay-to-view tv? |
Date | 09:46:04, February 09, 2006 CET | From | United Blobs | To | Debating the Morality Act (2181) |
Message | We would prefer to see it limited to pay-per-view channels in order to prevent people accidentally viewing it. |
Date | 22:12:44, February 09, 2006 CET | From | We Say So! Party | To | Debating the Morality Act (2181) |
Message | We do not retract the point. Sex is a fact of life, but porn movies show an idealised, entertainment version of that life. Crime is a fact of life, but crime dramas show a stylised version of those events however you wouldn't consider banning those just because they aren't completely factually accurate. |
