The Baltusian News Leader Interview Series Part 2 Mr Xander Fisk Profile http://a.raeson.dk/wp-content/uploads/2013/07/ktd070812-620x348.jpg Age: 48 Party: Patriotic Party of Baltusia Leader since: 4153 Religion: Hosianism Political position: Economics - Right Wing; Social/Civil Rights - Centre-Right Interview Deborah Smith Baltusian News: So, here we are with the second of my monthly interviews - thank you for joining me Xander Fisk. Xander Fisk: Good to be here. DS So following the same format as last time, when and how did you get into politics? XF I have always been a great believer in free market enterprise but also the need for authority in our every day lives. My father was a police man so I got a lot of my ideas from him. After university I started to work in a wealth management business but soon realised the regulation and red tape that choked our business needed fixing. I became more passionate about politics and 20 years ago the Patriotic Party asked me to stand for a council seat... the rest is history. DS So you haven't been into politics your whole life then? XF No, not actively, I worked in finance for about seven years first and stood for election when I was 28. I think that life experience has stood me in good stead. DS Do you have any other interests? XF Funnily enough, similar to Andy Chistron in that I like reading about military and social history and taking walks with my family - although, as Home Secretary I don't get that much chance these days. DS Your party have put forward some pretty controversial bills over the last three years - what happened to former President Mason's message of moderation? XF Well, look. We have a big party and it is made up of several factions. Everyone has the right to put forward bills. Some aren't to everyone's tastes - a little too left wing a little too socially conservative or a little too environmentally skeptical. It has made for some heated debate, which have gone too far on some occasions. However, broadly speaking I think the government has towed a line of a free market economy, environmental legislation that respects the rights of the business community and firm but fair civil rights that promote security for all. So, in summary, I think we have made good progress. DS So, do you believe the government is on course for another election victory? XF Certainly. The Right Alliance coalition has been so successful because we respect the will of the people. President Shephard has done a great job and I am sure Mr Burgmuller will carry on it that vein. I'm confident people will say four more years, please. DS So, what will be your role in the next government, should your caucus win? XF I have been home secretary for the last eight years and would like to carry on in a prominent role. Mr Burgmuller has my full support so I am sure whatever he decides is in store for me I will serve him well. DS Your thoughts on the Security Council bid? XF Well, our party has played a prominent role in our bid over the last 10 years, no one can doubt that. Obviously I fully endorse what we are doing and what Gareth Hernandez and his team has achieved. Our international strength, first galvanised by cross-party opposition for foreign interference during the Aldegar affair, has worked in our favour. Baltusia has really been able to project itself overseas, take on the big nations and, quite frankly beat most of them hands down because of this unity. Whatever happens after this election it is imperative we carry on in that vein and all parties ensure we get a seat at the top table of world affairs and use it well. DS Thank you, Mr Fisk, well, that's it from me. Please tune in next time... |
