Matthew Burgmuller: It's a pleasure to be on your show, thank you. DS: As per the format that has been used in previous interviews, how did you get into politics. MB: I have always had a strong interest in politics, my late great-grandmother Alexandra Burgmuller was President for almost 20 years last century and many believe that she is the founder for true conservatism in Baltusia, I learnt a lot from her about the brand of conservatism she believed in. I went to Villita University to study Environmental Science with Chemistry, aged 17, and it was then I first became a member of the CPoB. I then went on to pursue further education and became a Professor of Environmental Science and lectured at Costa De Oro College for 4 years. I was thoroughly interested in the effects of business and economic policy on environment and decided to run for Congress in 4119, and things just took off from there really. DS: So you have always had an interest in politics? MB: I suppose so, yes. DS: So aside from politics, do you have any other interests? MB: Well, I am passionate about science and enjoy reading about it and writing books about it. I enjoy writing and have published 8 books, 5 with regards to science, the other 3 about politics more generally. I like spending time with my family and talking to my 3 children about their politics. DS: With regards to your parties positions, some say that you are slightly more socially conservative than other leaders, say Ryan Gray, do you think that this will help to achieve the goal of reducing polarisation of Baltusian politics? MB: Well, I am pushing an agenda that I believe is best for Baltusia. I understand that my brand of politics might be slightly more to the right than that of those such as Ryan Gray, or perhaps Anya Stevenson. I think that my agenda is best for Baltusia, and the goal of reducing polarisation in the long term should be gradual. DS: With that in mind then, do you think you have a good chance at the upcoming election? MB: Look, I think that I have just as much chance as the opposition, and speculation isn't going to help anyone. I will try and debate the issues the best I can to try and get as many voters on my side so that we can win the day next year. DS: If you are elected President, Baltusia's likely election to the Security Council will be a priority, who do you plan to appoint as ambassador? MB: Well, firstly we have no agreed formal process for the moment with regards as Seat E ambassador to the SC. I plan to propose a constitutional amendment in the coming days regarding how this appointment is done. To answer your question though, there are many individuals I am considering and I cannot fully comment on my final decision, as it has not yet been made. DS: Ok and finally, Lewis Wright, who has been foreign secretary for decades now is retiring at the end of this term, do you think he has been successful. MB: Oh there is no doubting that Lewis has been an excellent foreign secretary who has definitely been very successful. I wish him all the best in the future and a happy retirement. DS: That's all we have got time for folks. Thank you for joining me Mr Burgmuller. MB: It's been a pleasure. DS: Good night, please tune in next time... |

Random fact: Did you know you can change the official name of your nation? All you need to do is draw up a new name that is in accordance with the Nation Renaming Guide, pass a bill proposing the name change with a two-thirds majority and then post a request to Moderation on the "Renaming Requests" thread. You can change city and region names in this way too. |
