Bill: Behavioral Freedom Act

Details

Submitted by[?]: Grand National Party

Status[?]: passed

Votes: This is an ordinary bill. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.

Voting deadline: January 4159

Description[?]:

Mr Speaker,

we believe that certain standards of behavioral freedom should be universally protected across the whole of Dranland and clearly enshrined in federal law. Provincial governors should not have the power to suppress public displays of affection, which are fundamental parts of human interaction. I ask the honorable members of this house to consider the consequences of what might come of a policy allowing regional administrations to regulate public conduct to such a broad degree: couples, even friends, might not be able to exchange kisses when saying goodbye to each other at the train station. No holding hands in a street café. Teenagers getting locked up for an innocent flirt at the local park. In short, it would be a very joyless and puritanical social environment. We therefore propose to federally restrain the scope of government's powers to prohibiting open sexual intercourse in public, which is more than sufficient for maintaining public decency.
