Description[?]:

Barmenia is a nation on the continent of Majatra with a primarily Turko-Persian culture and heavy Syriac and Arab influences. Barmenia is one of Particracy's Jelbic nations, a cultural group based on an amalgam of nomadic Eurasian cultures such as the Tatars, Turkics, Mongols and Finno-Ugrics, mixed with Iranians, Arabs, and Slavs to create a unique melting pot with its very own language, Jelbic, a conlang devised solely for the PT world. Barmenian, Pontesian, Vanukuian, and Jelbanian Jelbics speak their own distinct versions of the language, the primary difference being the source of loan-words. Barmenia is distinguished from the other Jelbic nations (Pontesi, Vanuku, Jelbania) by being more heavily influenced by Islamic Persian culture.

LANGUAGE AND NAMING

Kathuran (Aramaic/Syriac) is the most widely used language in Barmenia following the coalescence of the Kathuran minority and their Ahmadi supporters. Though Jelbic is still used in rural areas, the majority of the Brmek population has divided into their respective language groups. Character names should reflect Barmenia's cultural background, and most characters should have Assyrian, Bontu, or Seli names. Party names may be in, Aramaic, and/or English. OVERVIEW AND CULTURE

Cultural Origins: Area of cultural transition between Pontesi, Vanuku, and Beiteynu, with elements from all three; Jelbania, Jakania, Zardugal, Aldegar
RL Cultural Influences: Seljuk, Timurid, and Ottoman Empires, Turkey, Azerbaijan, Iranian Azerbaijan, Iraq

New players can think of Barmenia as being essentially Islamic Turkic, and it is acceptable to play in Barmenia as though one were playing in the Particracy equivalent of Turkey, Azerbaijan, and Central Asia. However, Barmenia has a rich history and a culture that goes beyond simply standard Turkic, and players are encouraged to take this into account. Barmenia places a heavier emphasis on the pre-modern aspects of Persianate Turkic culture, and it's language (Brmek) is part of a conlang created specifically for Particracy (detailed below). Additionally Barmenia has a very large minority based on RL Assyrians, and as such it has much cultural influence from RL Iraq.

BRIEF PRE-GAME HISTORY

The oldest continuous inhabitants of Barmenia belong to the Qedarite (Semitic) group, and during its early history Barmenian territory was ruled by a number of Qedarite polities, such as the Qedarite Empire (~ Carthaginian Empire), the Sacred Monarchy of Beiteynu (~ Hasmonean Judea), or the Kingdom of Arakhim (~ Osroene/Edessa). The demographics of Barmenia were heavily impacted by the Jelbo-Tukaric Migrations (http://particracy.wikia.com/wiki/Jelbo-Tukaric_Migrations) that saw Jelbic tribes settle in most of Barmenia,

In 1186 Ahmadism (Islam) was founded in Barmenia, leading to the creation of the Ahmadi Caliphate, the largest empire in pre-modern Majatran history, which spread the religion throughout the continent. Barmenia remained under the rule of the Caliphate even after it lost its political authority over the rest of Majatra, until it was overthrown in a democratic revolution in 2142, founding modern Barmenia.

IN-GAME HISTORY

Modern Barmenia alternated between periods of democratic rule and various Ahmadi theocratic/monarchic regimes, until in 2951 it was brought under the rule of a Selucian monarchy. Selucian rule had a major impact on Barmenian culture, particularly due to the emergence of a new religion in its aftermath. Felinism, a modern religion combining elements of Selucian Paganism, Hosianism, and Jelbic mythology was born in the 32nd century, and Felinist regimes have governed all of Barmenia at various times in its modern history. The conflict between Felinism and Ahmadism and their respective regimes plagued Barmenia for centuries ever since, until it was brought to an end with the forceful expulsion of Felinists in 3818. The Ahmadi-Felinist conflict was replaced with one between Ahmadism and Hosianism, the latter associated with various Kathuran minority regimes.

ETHNIC GROUPS

The dominant ethnic group in Barmenia is represented by the Brmeks (Brmékai), the Jelbic group inhabiting Barmenia. They are very similar to the other Jelbic peoples, having a Central Asian steppe culture, with the difference that they are more urban and have heavier Persian and Semitic influences. As such Brmeks represent the Oghuz Turks (Turks, Azeris, Turkmens) of Particracy. Brmeks speak the Brmek language, and most of them are Ahmadis (Muslim).

Kathurans are the dominant ethnic group in Arakhim and Kathuristan, and they are based on RL Syriac Christians (Assyrians, Chaldeans, Syriacs, Arameans). Kathurans speak the Kathuran (Aramaic/Syriac) language and Brmek, and most of them adhere to the Barmenian Apostolic Church.

Majatrans are based on RL Arabs. Many Majatrans settled in Barmenia during the Caliphate due to its expansion into the Eastern parts of Majatra. Majatrans speak the Majatran (Arabic) language and most of them are Ahmadis.

RELIGIONS

Being the birthplace of two major world religions, Ahmadism and Felinism, Barmenia is a religiously heterogeneous country. Historically, Barmenia has also has had notable Yeudi and Hosian communities.

Ahmadism is a religion born in 1186 in Barmenia that believes Akim to be the only God and Ahmad (Ám'ád) to be His Prophet. Barmenia was also the centre of Terra's first Caliphate, leading the global expansion of the religion. All major Ahmadi denominations are present in Barmenia, but the majority of Barmenian Ahmadis are Israi/Israist. Israism is the largest denomination of Ahmadism, and is characterized by its uncompromising monotheism and its dedication to sunnah. Barmenia also has a substantial Halawi minority, following a mystical heterodox sect of Ahmadism which has many elements in common with Abadism (based on Shi'ism) as well as a number of Hosian beliefs. Halawis form a distinct middle class and are generally better off economically than the Israis.

Hosianism is a religion founded in 1 CE that believes Eliyahu of Yishelem to be the Spirit of God and Saviour of mankind. The largest Hosian denomination in Barmenia is the Barmenian Apostolic Church, an autocephalous (independent) member of the Apostolic Church of the East, a denomination grouping together all Eastern Hosian Churches. The Aurorian Patriarchal Church, formerly known as the Selucian Patriarchal Church and the Theognosian Church, is practiced primarily by Selucians. The Aurorian Patriarchal Church is represented by the Patriarchate of the East in Barmenia (as well as Pontesi, Cildania, Cobura, and Zardugal).

Felinism is an animalistic religion born in Barmenia in the 30th century and worshiping cats as divine beings, built upon the shamanistic beliefs of the Jelbic peoples with heavy influences from Selucian Paganism (Roman Polytheism) as practiced by Seluco-Barmenians. Recently most Felinists moved to Selucia, where they were accepted as being part of the same faith as Selucian Pagans. Following the incentivized removal of purists Felinists by King Christopher from the period of 4105 to 4115, the faith has become largely Hosian in practice.

Jelbic Shamanism, based on Tengrism and the mythology of the Turkic peoples with many elements from Hungarian Paganism, is a collective term grouping the pre-Hosian and pre-Ahmadi religious beliefs of the Jelbic peoples. The most widely followed form of Jelbic shamanism is Tanhrism, a religion that sees Tanhri (the Sky) as the highest (and sometimes only) divinity. Zollism is a form of Jelbic shamanism from Vanuku that was heavily influenced by Selucian Paganism, and thus considers the Sun to be the greatest divinity.

MessageOOC: Hello,

Barmenia is currently a Culturally Open country and this bill is misleading in nature since no Cultural Affirmation can be done in a Culturally Open nation. A Cultural Protocol has to be passed first and for more information about creating a new Cultural Protocol, please consult section 17 of the Game Rules. This bill has to be removed as soon as possible.

MessageDear moderation,

I am perfectly willing to resubmit the title as 'Cultural Protocol'. Yet nonetheless this is the Cultural Protocol that has been created on the part of myself, Polites, and even (to an extent) Selcru. I, personally, have worked hard for this current incarnation and I shall not see it destroyed merely because I missed the deadline. If the other party's wish for input on the Cultural Protocol's, I shall gladly hear them out.

With thanks,

Oakwood.

MessageHello,

Since it appears that you are not willing to comply and have instead renamed the bill to "Cultural Protocol" another misleading title. Very well, you leave Moderation no choice. I am now issuing you with a warning for refusing to comply with Moderation ruling. I will now clear this bill. If it is reintroduced once again in this form or another similarly misleading form, further penalties will be applied.

Regards,

Reddy
