Bill: Citizens' ID Cards Bill
Details
Submitted by[?]: Patriotic Party of Baltusia
Status[?]: passed
Votes: This is an ordinary bill. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.
Voting deadline: May 4177
Description[?]:
Members of Congress, Either we fully buy into this idea or we don't. Personally I believe the boost in domestic security outweighs the civil liberty arguments that are put forward. I also think that if people do not have to carry them it is another waste of money for the government to have to produce them for 99-plus million people in our country. Message | Fellow members of Congress, To fully consider this proposal, you have to first ask whether there actually is a security need for this. If recent events are to be taken into account, Baltusia is a safe country with no real problem with safety. So I must ask the Majority Speaker why he feels it's necessary to take away people's liberties to get 'the boost in domestic security'? My party would never be pleased by this, and would be willing to agree in extreme circumstances. What has changed that makes this necessary? And in response to the argument that for people to not carry them is 'another waste of money for the government', the BDGP put the current legislation in place as a concession to those who agreed with our civil liberties stance, but wanted to allow people some sort of identification to be used in legal cases, for the authorities, etc. But we do agree that it is an unfortunate waste of Government funds, and our party policy is that we should abolish them altogether. Not only do they waste money because they're not currently being used, they are not needed and will only serve to hinder the public if they are made to carry them. The public has multiple forms of identification that they could use including birth certificates, drivers licences, and passports, so the money going to identity cards - mandatory to carry or otherwise - is unneeded and would be better spent elsewhere. Message | Members of Congress, My point is the cards are there now. Why not use them to their full advantage rather than remain in this wishy washy state of affairs? And as I remember it, it was the BDGP who proposed this current bill in the first place. I am glad they now see that like many of their half baked ideas this is a complete waste of Government resources... even if takes 20 years for the penny to drop. Message | Members of Congress, I really wish the Majority Speaker would do his research. In fact, he doesn't even have to, because I recently said it in this very chamber! The BDGP's proposal which resulted in the current legislation was due to the fact that we wished to "compromise" with the Republicans (then Conservatives) due to their concerns over security. And regarding the 'half baked' comment, at least we in the BDGP actually try to come up with ideas that work for this country! The Patriots haven't had a single useful idea in decades, and when they do eventually come up with something, it's only Darius Darvos with his extreme right agenda! Message | Member of Congress, I certainly have done my research. As stated, the BDGP proposed the current legislation just under two decades ago; now they are saying it is a waste of government funds. Which part of this statement doesn't receive 10 out of 10 for accuracy? Secondly, if the Patriots have not had a single useful idea in decades why did the BDGP vote yes to our Religious Taxation Reform act or our Military Involvement in Policing Matters bill - both proposed within this government's term? Is it not the case that the Minority Speaker is spouting hot air and hyperbole to deflect the fact that she proposed a bill that has cost this country billions and has been a complete waste of time? Random fact: Particracy does not allow real-life brand names (eg. Coca Cola, McDonalds, Microsoft). However, in the case of military equipment brand names it is permitted to use simple number-letter combinations (eg. T-90 and F-22) borrowed from real life, and also simple generic names, like those of animals (eg. Leopard and Jaguar). |
