Bill: Anti 'Scientific' Whaling Act
Details
Submitted by[?]: Unsubmissive Beluzian Workers Party
Status[?]: passed
Votes: This is an ordinary bill. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.
Voting deadline: March 4185
Description[?]:
Despite Beluzia's ban on commercial whaling, we use the provision that allows whales to be killed for scientific purposes. However little, if any useful information comes from 'scientific whaling' and it is simply a guise to conduct commercial whaling. Let me present Parliament with three points: -Scientific permit whaling requires whale meat to be sold. This means that this 'permit' is just a license to sell whale meat -Approval of 'scientific whaling' is granted by Beluzia ourselves and not any Terran International Whaling Commission. This means we can approve whaling without scrutiny or further explanations -Nations that kill whales are the most interested in setting up a whale meat market. Our current programme has led to the killing of thousands of whales, as quotas have not been set by the previous Minister of Environment and Tourism If we are an environmentally friendly nation, then why are we killing sea creatures that we all love? We should find alternatives to 'scientific whaling'. In the era of DNA sampling and remote monitoring, we don't have to do this. Instead, samples can be collected from fecal matter, blubber and the skin of the whales. Our nation's advanced scientists can also collect samples through blowholes, allowing for detection of pathogens. Whale population estimates and trends can be done by commissioning sighting surveys and photo-identification. In this age, we need to come up with new technology and techniques to study whales and not to use the medieval method of harming these poor creatures. We ask Parliament, including the parties that voted for the current law to think about our sea and the future generation that sees it. Do we want to see a sea where whaling ships are free to roam to kill animals? Or do we want a sea where animals are cared for? Our nation's environment depends on the decisions that our politicians make and not the decisions that special interests make to influence our nation's policy direction. Thank you. Dame Jane Marie-Anne Varman B.A., B.S, B.Ec., MIA, LL.M Deputy General Secretary Minister of Environment and Tourism |

Message | We are happy that parties who previously supported the law that we have in place right now are now listening to the voices of their voters and working with bipartisanship in mind instead of partisanship and special interests. We have finally achieved another point of former President Gomes's plan for a better Beluzia |
Date | 02:56:25, March 24, 2017 CET | From | Republican Party | To | Debating the Anti 'Scientific' Whaling Act |
Message | Although our party previously proposed and passed the bill that made scientific whaling legal, and do not agree with some points of the argument stated in the bill, we will vote in favor in order to show our support for the incumbent president. May our differences not divide our parties, but rather unite us in moving forward within Beluzia. |
