Description[?]:
This bill is to put the Identity Cards Program back into place. It was put in place to stop illegal immigration and crime. It tells the government that if you have an identity card you are a legal citizen. Tourist receive a temporary identity card which will last the length of their trip. Also many government services will require proof of legal citizenship and the identity card is very useful in that sense. |

Message | Forcing citizens to carry government issued ID cards is intrusive and expensive. There is no evidence to suggest that they are effective in combating crime. Countries which have ID cards do not have lower rates of crime nor do those which introduce ID cards see a reduction in crime rates. ID cards have no effect on identity fraud, which occurs mostly online, and do not uncover the intent of terrorists or those with terrorist designs. |
