Message | Mr. Speaker With respect to the Honourable Senator, I am a personal longtime farmer who spent 30 years establishing my farms and ranches. To the ranchers and farmers of Falristan this is a rather heavy and bitter pill to swallow. Many questions would arise in terms of ownership, share of the profits of the product and livestock, division of assets and equipment, and innumerable other things. Unless significant regulations are added to this Bill we would prefer the current status quo in which as is, small failing farms are generally bought out by larger farming enterprises. Message | Mr. Speaker Our caucus can not vote in favor of this Bill. While we can see that it is merely to encourage cooperative farming, it doesn't address any of the real concerns that we brought up including, but not limited to, ownership of the farm itself, the division of livestock, equipment and assets and profit sharing between the owners. We can not in good faith vote in favor of such a Bill as it currently stands. Andrew Murphy Senator for Dollier Valley Progressive Conservative Senate Leader |

Message | ''Mr. Speaker With respect to the honorable senator Murphy, his last intervention has left me a little bit perplexed. I wonder if mister Murphy understand what does cooperative farming mean. Maybe he should do some research about the way a cooperative industry work, that may answer his questions about the ownership of the farm itself, the division of livestock, equipment and assets and profit sharing between the owners.'' -Roy Lloyd Senator and former minister of Food and Agriculture |
