Bill: Defence Through Knowledge Act of October 2183
Details
Submitted by[?]: Proletariat Revolution Party
Status[?]: defeated
Votes: This is an ordinary bill. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.
Voting deadline: September 2186
Description[?]:
Given our new era, it is in national interests that while we maintain a stance that is non-agressive, we ought to continue research and development of biological, chemical and nuclear weaponry. With knowledge, the nation can defend itself. Peace is something that any generation deserves and by using just research we can ensure that while we have the knowledge to strike back, our nation leads by example and doesn't horde weapons of mass destruction. Through leading by example, we can help usher in an era wherein war is merely a stain on the page of our history books, as we move forward to an era of enlightenment. |

Message | Having the knowledge to produce these types of weapons is good, but not of great use in a crisis. We feel that our defense requires that we have these weapons available for use as needed. |

Message | AM AAP is inclined to side with the AM RLP. Knowledge of the technology is unlikely to protect our borders. |

Message | But if we don't seek to provoke another nation, and no nation has any reason to come after us, what good is our weaponry collection? |

Message | It would be a better world if everyone else felt the same as our allies in AM SLP, but unfortunately tghere are too many examples where not having a weaponry collection is a free lunch sign for other nations. It is better to have the weapons and not need them, than to need the weapons and not have them. |

Message | Indeed. The ever-present ogre of Delatarian Fascism might be enough reason, on it's own, to preserve a stockpile of defences. |

Message | We have been perusing some of the recent Deltarian action and sadly report that Deltaria appears to be re-arming. There is even a move afoot for them to rejoin the axis agreement. Sadly also we feel that this an issue we will have to vote against, we never know when we may need weapons for if Deltaria can threaten war over an unpainted chicken coop, best we keep a little heat in our back pockets. |

Message | Exactly... the AM PSS sums up the fears of so many Likatonians. |
Date | 18:24:08, February 14, 2006 CET | From | Proletariat Revolution Party | To | Debating the Defence Through Knowledge Act of October 2183 |
Message | We have remove the clause for the chemical and biological weapons, but left in nuclear because the collateral damage is too great, especially in war since human error is plausible. |
Date | 19:45:47, February 14, 2006 CET | From | AM Radical Libertarian Party | To | Debating the Defence Through Knowledge Act of October 2183 |
Message | The nuclear article was the one we most opposed, due to the long start up time for production. |
Date | 06:35:26, February 15, 2006 CET | From | Progressive Party | To | Debating the Defence Through Knowledge Act of October 2183 |
Message | Actually, one could make the case that biological and chemical weapons aren't necessary for the defense of a country, but nuclear weapons are too important to ban because of the deterrent they provide. The sheer destructive power of nuclear weaponry is the ultimate deterrent from foreign attack, while chemical and biological weapons can do little more than kill off people and harm our international reputation. Therefore, we cannot support. |
Date | 12:21:57, February 15, 2006 CET | From | Conservative Liberal Party | To | Debating the Defence Through Knowledge Act of October 2183 |
Message | We are very proud of our Nuclear Deterrent, and feel it is foolish to disarm unilaterally in this manner. |
