Bill: Ensuring Religious Freedoms

Details

Submitted by[?]: Lutte Féministe de Libération

Status[?]: passed

Votes: This is an ordinary bill. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.

Voting deadline: January 2185

Description[?]:

While we must strive to recognize the importance of keeping organized religious authority out of the affairs of government, we must be equally conscious of keeping government authority out of the affairs of religion, which has long held a well-deserved place as being uniquely independent of conventional wisdom on regulation and oversight.

ARTICLE 1: Allows for the free visitation by foreign missionaries spreading their word to the people of Rildanor. Except in cases of violent foreign missionaries (which would be excluded from visiting for security reasons, not religious ones), foreign missionaries should be given the same freedom we expect our own to recieve abroad. By limiting which peaceful missionaries can come and go, we limit the free expression of religious and spiritual thought and risk being discriminatory in which religions we approve for visitation.

ARTICLE 2: Religions, like corporations, should generally be given free reign over advertising themselves, as they are especially susceptible to being discriminated against by government authorities, who through cultural or religious misunderstandings disapprove of the religion in question. Previous arguments on this issue have raised the concern that this would legalize advertising by radical, violent religious groups, but these groups would be banned from advertising anyway because their message preaches violence.

ARTICLE 3: No religions should be taxed because they are not corporations but spiritual communities often dedicated to acts of good deeds that benefit the community.

We expect that this may be supported by unusual allies in other parties, but we accept this as the necessary path towards achieving a just goal: ensuring religious independence from government.

MessageWe don't know how to vote on this one... We're religious, but we only want freedoms for our state religion only, which is long gone now.
