Bill: Public Servant Act
Details
Submitted by[?]: Likatonian Independence Party
Status[?]: passed
Votes: This is an ordinary bill. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.
Voting deadline: January 4190
Description[?]:
Members of parliament and our government are public servants. As such the should be paid well, but not excessively well. We should pay our members of parliament and government the average income of citizens in our country. This assures that they remain humble, work for the good of Likatonia and our people, and live lives similar to the majority of our countrymen. Only this way can we assure that our elected representatives understand us and truly represent We the People! |

Message | OOC: check out mujica from Uruguay. He's the inspiration to this proposal. ;) There's no reason why only career politicians would be talented. |

Message | When a talented person will decide what to do with their life, they -as would most of us- will choose the most profitable among their desirable options. If a successful lawyer/scientist/professor/engineer will earn more money at their office/lab/university/workshop than pursuing a political carreer, they will just stay at their workplace, and our nation will lose a great leader. |

Message | Instead, our politics will become full of people that hasn't got any successful carreer anywhere else. Then, for politicians to be "more successful" than they can achieve by themselves, corruption will be in vogue. |

Message | Or, those folks will say you know what? I want to serve my country. I want to be a member of parliament for 2-4 years. It would attract public servants as opposed to career politicians. Our Party does not want those people you mention, we don't want someone attracted to a position of government for a desire for personal profit or gain. We want selfless folks who want to serve because they believe in Likatonia and want to make it a better nation. |

Random fact: Cabinet ministers who disagree seriously with the head of government would usually be expected to resign. Parties within the cabinet may attempt to manoeuvre to replace the head of government though, for example by proposing a new cabinet bill or voting for an early election. |
