Message | Currently taxation revenue is 44,488,258,491 RUT, the vast majority of which comes from regressive consumption taxes (though our colleagues in the CRL have recently passed some welcome changes so that this falls mostly on luxury rather than essential goods). Spending is 48,404,950,000 RUT. GDP is 338,454,317,182 RUT. Government spending therefore makes up a tiny 14.3% of GDP. Following the hoped-for passage of the Minimum Programme, this will increase significantly. The DSPR propose to fund this through a modernisation of our income tax system, introducing a progressive tax regime in which the richest pay proportionally more. For reference, GDP per capita (average income) is around 3,000 RUT. |

Random quote: "Many forms of Government have been tried, and will be tried in this world of sin and woe. No one pretends that democracy is perfect or all-wise. Indeed, it has been said that democracy is the worst form of government except all those other forms that have been tried from time to time." - Winston Churchill |
