Bill: Agricultural Reform Act

Details

Submitted by[?]: Democracy Party

Status[?]: passed

Votes: This is an ordinary bill. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.

Voting deadline: September 4198

Description[?]:

This measure would change the requirements for agricultural subsidies from "market demand" to "those which are beneficial to the environment or to the continued ecological safety of the state." This would expand the number of farms using sustainable, ecologically friendly practices, which would greatly improve the health of our lakes, streams, and wildlife. If market demand is high, it's likely that farmers would produce a lot of that product without subsidies.

This would also allow the government to break up farms that have grown too large. This would allow all farmers to operate on a level playing field- i.e., small family farmers wouldn't have to compete with megacorporations. Monopolies, which this bill would break up, also impede competition and therefore economic growth.
