Description[?]:
To my rightful colleagues, . Our proposal is that private companies operate regional TOC's. The national service is provided by a publicly owned, national TOC This proposal means that we are keeping our private rail companies going but also providing a service rightfully owned nationally. Regional services deserve to be unaffected however, as a country, we should have one big rail company doing this service meaning that people will travel faster as they will not have to keep changing and it will be easier for people to get around if they are travelling far as there would only be one rail name they need to remember and no changes allowing a stress free journey. We need easier travel for people and this would be a step in the right direction Mia Jang-Sin Minister of Infrastructure and Transport |

Message | Mr Speaker, the argument that reducing competition would simplify transportation does not convince us - why, then, not also nationalize private airlines, taxi companies or car rentals? Train passengers have varying preferences and expectations to cost and comforts, which the current system satisfies more effectively than a national TOC could do. Message | Mr Speaker, We believe in going one step at a time. If this bill works, then we would think about putting this in other places. But if it doesn't work, then we would be happy to change things back to how they are now Mia Jang-Sin Minister of Infrastructure and Transport |
