Bill: Farming Efficiency Act
Details

Status[?]: passed
Votes: This is an ordinary bill. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.
Voting deadline: October 2185
Description[?]:
United we profit, divided we default. Current Jakanian law breaks up farms and redistributes the land should a farm become too large. While we support land ownership as a central part of self-dignity, we nevertheless feel that there are a few problems: 1) Individual farmers have far less access to farming services such as mills, storage, and food processing plants than large farms and groups of farmers could provide. Simply, rather than encouraging farmers to pool together their resources, each individual farmer must rent their own equipment, provide for their own storage, sell their own crops, etc. This is very inefficient. 2) Larger farms are punished for their business sense. There is no point, for example, in maintaining and expanding a farm as a business if the government is going to break up the farm after a certain point. We need to give farmers incentive to do well. What the LSP proposes is that the government encourages farming collectives, where farmers pool their resources together for mutual benefit, side by side with large farms, which will reward the enterprising farmer. In short, everyone benefits. |
