Bill: Military Reform Act

Details

Submitted by[?]: Independent Democratic Party (IDP)

Status[?]: defeated

Votes: This is an ordinary bill. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.

Voting deadline: November 4199

Description[?]:

Reform #1

Under our current law National Service law we require all adults, after they graduate from school, to server a term of military service or a term of public service. This law is causing our military spending to sky rocket and is impacting our nations democracy in a negative way.

I propose that we change our current law from a mandatory service to a non-mandatory voluntary service. This will allow us to not only decrease military spending, but it will also allow us to provide better training and an increase in funding toward a more modern military.

Reform #2

The second and probably one of the more important pieces of reform we need to make is towards our government's policy concerning the use of nuclear weaponry in warfare. As it stands our law gives our president the right to use nuclear weapons for any reason which is not only reckless on our part, but also hurts our relations with other Nations.

I am recommending that we change our current policy from allowing the use of nuclear weapons for any reason to only allowing the use of nuclear weapons in retaliation to a nuclear, chemical or biological attack.

Reform #3

My final reform is our laws against the export of weapons. As it stands our laws allow the export of guns to nations that support and harbor terrorists. This is a problem which causes concern for national security and the exporting of guns and other weaponry to terrorist supporting nations should be illegal and considered a grave threat.

I am suggesting that we only allow exporting of weapons to nations that share our interest and that we are close allies with. This way to avoid any support for terrorist groups.

MessageDear speaker,

Article 3 is the only one we can endorse. Article 1 undermines civic virtue and the sense of unity the military brings. We want professional soldiers, not warrior mercenaries like a volunteer force would promote. Article 2 restricts our nuclear capability too much. We recommend a vote of nay on this bill.

We would support Article 1 in a separate bill.
