Bill: (RP) Presidential Terms Act 4199

Details

Submitted by[?]: Baltusian Democratic Green Party (BDGP)

Status[?]: passed

Votes: This bill is a resolution. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.

Voting deadline: January 4201

Description[?]:

This bill asks for an amendment to the Constitution. It will require two-thirds of the legislature to vote in favor. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.

As per the BDGP election manifesto, we propose a law that will ensure no one person can retain an iron-grip control over our country for a prolonged period of time. This will allow more voices to be heard in our democracy, and helps the younger generations be granted a more important role - something important as we approach the next century.

Article 1:

The President and Commander-in-Chief of Baltusia may only serve two terms of office.

Article 1 bis:

Should an early election be called less than two years into the President's first term, and they subsequently win that snap election, they 'continue' their term until the next election (early or scheduled). Should they then win that election, they then complete their second and final term, so may not stand in another election (early or scheduled)

Article 2:

Once someone has become President, and then complete two terms, lose an election, resign, or are impeached, that person may not run for the role again.

If approved, this bill will take effect immediately after the next election (expected to be on January 4203)

MessageMembers of Congress,

I will leave this bill in debate for now, and would greatly welcome any recommendations or comments. However, I must once again make people aware: as this proposal was in President Perkins' election manifesto - one that she and thus the Centrist Alliance won on - it would be greatly disappointing for both the Government and the public should there be any resistance to this fair and balanced proposal.
