Bill: Public Education

Details

Submitted by[?]: Alorian Communist Party

Status[?]: defeated

Votes: This is an ordinary bill. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.

Voting deadline: October 2060

Description[?]:

The problem with private schools is that they allow rich parents to buy a better education for their children, thus giving children with "rich daddies" an unfair advantage over other children who are just as intelligent as they are, but have poorer parents. It is immoral and unjustifiable to reward or punish children for the wealth or poverty of their parents. Basically, what we are saying is that all people should be given equal opportunities - they should be given the same standards of education in order to start out in life from an equal footing with their peers. This holds true from a conservative point of view as well - don't you want FAIR competition and meritocracy?

MessageSo because of their parents poor economic status the child gets punished? For one thing, in a capitalist society you cant become rich by simply 'working hard'. As a capitalist system is based on a hierarchy, there can be by definition a very small number of the ruling class. All we are saying is a even playing field so everyone has the same opportunities.

MessageYour argument defeats itself. Private schooling solidifies the wealth in the hands of the wealthy, thus meaning the poor can't "work hard, earn money, and send their children to a private school". If you wanted a country where hard work was rewarded, instead of family and connections, you would be against private schooling!

MessageThere is no reason to have private schools. They encourage elitism and widen the gulf between classes. Noone should be put at a disadvantage because they were not born into excessive wealth.

Random fact: In Culturally Protected nations, special care must be taken to ensure realism is maintained when role-playing a government controlled by an ethnic and/or religious minority. If it is to be supposed that this government is supported by a majority of the population, then this should be plausibly and sufficiently role-played. The burden of proof is on the player or players role-playing such a regime to demonstrate that it is being done realistically
