Bill: OOC: Cultural Protocol Update (Voting)

Details

Submitted by[?]: Sotsialisticheskaya Rabochaya Partiya

Status[?]: passed

Votes: This bill is a resolution. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.

Voting deadline: November 4217

Description[?]:

I've tidied up the Cultural Protocol as well as making some minor changes to the breakdowns. Most significantly, I provided a specific form of neo-paganism, redefined Hulstrian as Austrian (in line with other role-play across Terra) and added Kizenian and Valruzian as minorities, removing Egelian. I also reworded the naming section to provide some guidance on the Russian naming conventions.

************************

---HISTORY OF TRIGUNIA---
Trigunia was originally founded as a colony of Greater Hulstria, at one time accounting for nearly ten percent of the Hulstrain Empire’s collective population. In the early 2500's, thousands of Hulstrians emmigrated from Hulstria to Trigunia during the reign of Tsar Aleksandr I, who promised favourable business terms to the foreigners in the hope they would bring skills to his country. Since then Hulstrians living in Trigunia have experienced the same trials of Communism and Republicanism that Trigunia has faced, however they have managed to keep a strong ethnic identity but without alienating themselves from Trigunain society at large. Hulstrians historically fill skilled positions in Trigunian society with many being doctors, lawyers, and holding high level military positions. After the desolation of Greater Hulstria (who ruled over Trigunia for some time), Trigunia saw a series of internal uprising and revolutions and is known for being the birthplace of Vladimir Leonid. Most notably the communist uprising that resulted in what was known as the Union of Kerisian Socialist Republics. Trigunia has seen her share of revolutions and political changes, from being a socialist state, to a democratic state and to a monarchist state. Trigunia has been a leading nation since its foundation and has contributed numerous times to the world stage.

---DEMOGRAPHICS OF TRIGUNIA---
Trigunia is a somewhat ethnically diverse nation in the northern hemisphere. Traditionally, the most significant minority populations, the Kozaki and Hulstrians have enjoyed a degree of self-government.

Demographic breakdown:
» Rodshyan (Russian)- 72%
» Kozaki (Ukrainian)- 11%
» Hulstrian (Austrian)- 9%
» Majatran (Arab)- 2%
» Dolgavan (Latvian)- 2%
» Kizenian (Romanian)- 2%
» Valruzian (Polish)- 1%
» Other- 1%

--LANGUAGE IN TRIGUNIA--
The primary official national language is Rodshya (Russian) but the significant minorities speak Koazkian (Ukrainian) and Dundorfian (German) thus they would be acceptable in regional politics or political parties where minority rights or regional minority rights are prominent.

RELIGIOUS COMPOSITION
Religion plays a very important role in politics and in everyday life Trigunia. Although the times have changed from the folk dances of the northern tribes, and of the Kozaks, the nation and its people hold many religious values to heart. Trigunia is known for supporting any given religion once it is in the interest of the people, but there is a special relationship between the people of Trigunia and the Terran Patriarchal Church. The Apostolic Church of the East, although it holds a minor number of followers among the population, there are several government and military officers who identify themselves as Eastern Hosians. Although it holds a very small percent of followers among the population, Israism in Trigunia usually attracts those who wish not to be gripped onto the distortions of the world.

» Hosianism (Christianity)- 80%
--Terran Patriarchal Church (Eastern Orthodox with aspects of Slavic mythology)- 61%
--Apostolic Church of the East (Oriental Orthodox)- 29%
--Aurorian Patriarchal Church (Catholicism)- 10%
» Ahmadism (Islam)- 10%
--Israism (Sunni)- 92%
--Sahabism (Sufism)- 8%
» Dievism (Dievturība)- 4%
» None/Atheism- 3%
» Other- 3%

--NAMING IN TRIGUNIA--

Most characters would have from Rodshyan (Russian), a significant minority would next be from the Kozaki (Ukrainian) and Hulstrian (Austrian) groups. Names from Trigunia’s other minority groups are acceptable but would rare and likely not to come up in very mainstream politics. Regarding traditional Russian naming conventions, it is advised that players use ‘FIRST NAME’ ‘SURNAME’ and exclude the Patronymic name. Additional information about Russian naming customs can be found on the Fantasy Name Generator website (link below).

As per the game rules, party names may be in English but it is suggested that they are translated into Russian. If Russian is used then it should be transliterated from the Cyrillic alphabet to ensure consistency among players.

MessageYou know what I'm like, so forgive me for always being the notorious incredibly fussy/picky guy over CPs :)...

Just a few points:

1. The cultural demographics are adding up to 99% at the moment; it should be 100%.

2. Personally, I much prefer giving each denomination as a percentage of the overall total, rather than as a percentage of the religion. Makes it easier to take in at a glance.

3. Just teeny things, but complete the brackets for the TPC entry and I presume "military offices" should be changed to "military officers".

MessageGlad you're here, rather than it being spotted after we've voted. The reason I opt with the denominations being listed as percentages of the overall religions is because it makes clear that they are indeed denominations. I also think that you're more likely to break religious demographic down into Christianity, Islam etc. than you are to break it down into Catholicism or whatever. Ultimately, though, I'm happy to go with the majority view.

MessageIt's not entirely related to the cultural protocols but I was thinking we should make a decision about how we present the core variables of the nation. At present, the nation name and most party names are transliterated whereas the legislature, HoS and HoG are in Cyrillic. We've also got 'federal subject' which is just in English.

MessageMaybe we should make all names with first Cyrillic and then the English translation, excluding parties, since A. it will not fit in and B. If you are trying to type in "Демократическая", into your party name, the word breaks off before the "p" and has this weird question mark thing.

MessageThere's not much we can do with party names, since they are under the control of individuals anyway but I'm happy to switch the remaining non-Cyrillic variables to Cyrillic (I believe that's the nation name and sub-national districts right now). Are you happy with the CP proposal, though?

MessageYes, although maybe you could bump up the amount of TPC followers - I was doing a short roleplay of a conversion campaign which kind of just disappeared, but it would have brought results (imagine the Patriarch went around but it was not reported in the newspapers :-))

MessageThat's a rigid and inaccurate view. It's recommended that apostrophes are not used, it's not required. One needn't worry so much about such matters.

Random fact: Characters are considered to be "owned" by the player who first mentioned or created them. In practice, players may share responsibility for role-playing a character, but ultimate authority rests with the owner.
