Bill: Delegation of Government Control for Medicinal Cannabis
Details
Submitted by[?]: Social Libertarian Party
Status[?]: passed
Votes: This is an ordinary bill. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.
Voting deadline: July 2035
Description[?]:
The nationwide ban on the use of cannabis as a pain reliever is completely nonsensical. Understanding that different regions of Beluzia have different needs, we would like to propose that each region decide for itself whether or not the medicinal use of cannabis should be legal. |
Proposals
Article 1
Proposal[?] to change The use of cannabis for medicinal purposes.
Old value:: The medicinal use of cannabis is illegal.
Current: Cannabis is legal as a sedative for patients in pain.
Proposed: The legality of medicinal cannabis is established by local governments.

Message | We would prefer an outright legalisation rather than it being decided by local governments. |

Message | The people themselves best know what they want; there are tradeoffs in allowing the legalization of medicinal cannabis, and it should be up to the regions to choose. |

Message | Differing laws can have an adverse effect on patients, however. Patients who rely on Marijuana as, for example, an appetite stimulant, will not be permitted to use it in another region, and possibly even incur criminal charges for doing so. It places extra stress upon patients who have to deal with complicated and contradictory inter-regional laws. |

Message | Should it be necessary, the patient you mentioned could use an alternative treatment for the time that he is outside of his region. On the other hand, people in some regions believe that the use of cannabis degrades society and is harmful to children; to simply say what the rest of the nation believes must be right for their region is improper. Legislation should apply to the smallest body upon which it would be effective. |

Message | This is a medical issue, and should be determined by the medical establishment, not by the region |

Random fact: Did you know you can change the official name of your nation? All you need to do is draw up a new name that is in accordance with the Nation Renaming Guide, pass a bill proposing the name change with a two-thirds majority and then post a request to Moderation on the "Renaming Requests" thread. You can change city and region names in this way too. |
