Message | The recent budget proposal that the DA was hoping to pass slashed defence spending in half - thankfully, that bill didn't pass. However, this bill is worrying, as it shows what the government's plans were if defence spending was slashed. The plan was to restrict our military, and take away provisions that keep us safe. Message | Aeron Beltz, Minister of Defence: I can't say I'm surprised that parties of the far-right have voted no to this Bill. What does surprise is that the so-called 'progressives' have chosen to vote no as well. This Bill seeks to end the storage, research and production of weapons technologies that are unsafe and entirely inhumane. Yes, this Bill represents our plans for defence - namely that by enacting these provisions the defence budget could save millions (even billions) on costs of researching, producing and storing unnecessary technologies. I ask Senator Bohn how can you, in good conscience, condone the use of land mines, nuclear weapons, and chemical and biological weapons by our defence forces? These provision don't keep us safe, they make us targets, they encourage the scorn of other nations, and portray us as an uncivilised and weak people who would sooner resort to devastating and inhumane tactics. |

Message | Minister, you claim these provisions make us a target, when in fact they do the opposite. We hope we will never have to launch a nuclear strike, however we must keep our nuclear weapons to deter foreign threats. These provisions make us less of a target and less vulnerable. We neither condone or disapprove of the use of land mines. We think this is a decision for the army to make. This bill is what will make us weaker. Lamprecht Bohn, AIP Defence Spokesman |
Date | 16:41:43, May 13, 2017 CET | From | Progressive Liberal Party | To | Debating the Weapons Reduction Bill |
Message | The Progressive Liberal Party has never supported a bill if in that bill there existed even a single provision that we do not agree with. While the reform you've proposed has some acceptable parts, we can't vote in favour of the bill unless we agree to everything. Believe me, betraying our ideas and values is the last thing our party can be accused of. Margaret Gedrych |

Random quote: The Wolfsheim Virus is not a real actual disease in the conventional medical sense of the term. Rather, it is a cluster of symptoms which are just part of the general socio-economic disease that is capitalism. The main symptoms the sufferers are experiencing are a direct result of capitalist poverty, as in malnutrition, poor housing and so on, combined with psycho-somatic symptoms which are a direct consequence of the contradictions and stresses which are inherent to the capitalist system. ~ Friedrich Pfeiffer, General Secretary of the Dorvish Communist Party |
