Bill: Military Policy Reform Act

Details

Submitted by[?]: Progressive Liberal Party

Status[?]: passed

Votes: This is an ordinary bill. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.

Voting deadline: August 4212

Description[?]:

The Progressive Liberal Party introduces this bill to change the military's policy in regards to current international standards. We believe that any form of chemical or biological weapons should not be used for a civilian target, for they are some of the most inhumane and ethically unacceptable types of weapons. Then, in regards to nuclear weaponry, Aloria as many other nations have reserved their right to produce and store nuclear weapons, and our government did so over this long period of time. The Defence budget had skyrocketed and almost reached 50% in some budget plans proposed in past governments, so the nation now clearly has a capable and functioning nuclear arsenal that shall provide important defensive capabilities for this nation. Thus, we believe Aloria should take a step forward and put a stop to their production and storage. However, the technological advances these systems imply should not be overlooked and our researchers should not be stopped by this decision.

We welcome debate on the said bill.

MessageWe completely agree that chemical and biological weapons are the most inhumane weapons, and so we support article 1. However, we will not be supporting this bill, due to the second article. We think retaining our nuclear arsenal is an important part of our defence programme, and so we will not support a bill proposing that we are no longer allowed to store nuclear weapons.

Message(OOC: I know that the in-game proposas is "The nation shall never produce or store nuclear weaponry for military purposes." but if until now the government has been producing and storing nuclear arsenal it can't simply disassemble it or anything because of this law. I view it more like an inactivation. Don't you think?)

This bill would basically inactivate the military nuclear arsenal of Aloria, reducing it only to research purposes, but that would not mean that in case of a threat the arsenal cannot be used for the defence of the country. Basically, Aloria will not lose its title as a nuclear power of the world but we will make a step forward towards pacification. I hope the AIP shall consider this issue further.

MessageThis Bill certainly doesn't go near as far as we would like it to. Nonetheless it is a step in the right direction and so we will vote in favour.

Random fact: Players consent to the reasonable and predictable consequences of the role-play they consent to. For example, players who role-play their characters as committing criminal offences should expect those characters to experience the predictable judicial consequences of that.
