| In a shock announcement today, Vice President Marie-Anne Smith tendered her resignation to President Marko Skandel on the steps of her residence, the Blue House. In her resignation speech, she said: "I cannot and will not standby a President that has failed in proposing a fair Cabinet proposal and cannot answer simple questions from Members of National Congress regarding this matter. The incompetence and ignorance of this administration is out of control and this is not the strong and stable leadership Beluzia needs in these times of economic troubles. We need a administration that is open, transparent and trustworthy, one that can put us back on the path of prosperity and peace, not one that will put us back on the backwards path of partisanship and division. We do not wish for a civil war. We wish for a nation of political diversity, where all ideologies are respected. This is not a populist government. This is a sham government that is influenced by the oligarchs and the big companies. This is another rightist party that paints itself as 'progressive and populist'. I hereby tender my resignation to the President and will relinquish my duties as Vice President tomorrow. I hope that the President can appoint someone that he finds capable of serving alongside him." When asked whether she would run for President, she said: "I am actively considering it, but I know that at this crucial moment of our nation's history, many of my party's members are also considering running for the position. We need strong and stable leadership, not some administration that is virtually inexperienced. They should stop calling us as 'friends of the Front' and instead should look at themselves. We were allies once, but now, we are not. The party has drove off in a whole new direction that our party does not remember when they first entered the political scene. They were a forward looking party, but now, they are a backwards looking party, wishing to divide society instead of healing it. I am fed up and I will go home and have a nice rest, thinking of whether to run for President of our great nation. We need a true leader and we need one now." |
