| This will stop our businesses from going bankrupt and being able to buy and sell more it will help with the economic crisis. As Former Minister of Finance, I suggest that we increase Federal Funding in all aspects and increase income tax rates whilst decreasing Business Taxes but this decision is up to my successor, Owen Stewart. | Message | We profoundly disagree with the suggestion that we should raise income taxes & cut corporation tax. The global economic downturn has seen a fall in demand and a crisis of consumer confidence. Raising income tax will reduce consumer spending further. This fall in demand & confidence is at the heart of the crisis. A cut in corporation tax is more likely to see companies hold onto that extra money rather than use it for investment & employment. We have proposed an initial 14 billion MRD stimulus package to stabilise wages & employment in the short term. Owen Stewart Minister of Finance |
