Bill: Dying with Dignity Bill
Details
Submitted by[?]: Proletariat Revolution Party
Status[?]: defeated
Votes: This is an ordinary bill. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.
Voting deadline: April 2061
Description[?]:
This bill recognises the right of the individual citizen to die with dignity. The consent of two doctors is required. The patient's consent is required and may either come in the form of an oral request or as a written request (such as a living will). If neither an oral or written expression of consent exists, then despite any doctor recommendation and family requests, the patient shall never be euthanized. They shall contiue to live until they die naturally. No one but the patient and the doctor have a say in the matter. The only time that a third party may be involved is if there is a living will and the person bringing it forth is either the guardian or has the power of attorney. If the patient should have a 'do not resuscitate' request in their living will, the only ones who can carry it out are certified nurses and doctors, once the patient is in the hospital. This is not left to the discretion of the paramedic. |

Message | Euthenasia is Self Murder and it goes against the Hypoctratic Oath. Wills cannot have clauses in them saying i do not wish to be revived because if a Medic was to revive someone on the street then what? Do Medics need to carry Lawyers around? |

Message | It requires doctor consent, does it not? In the case of the medic on the street, the medic was the doctor in question and did not give consent. Part of the reason why this is valid is because of the Hypocratic Oath - doctors will (hopefully) be loathe to break that oath, and hence, euthanasia will be extremely rare and only in cases where there is no other option at all. |

Message | If you read carefully, the consent is a stressed requirement. So, there is the possibility, that even if the patient requests it, if the doctor doesn't believe in it, that the wish won't be carried out. |

Message | If you read closely, RWL, it doesn't make doctor consent mandatory. It just says that in order for euthanasia to be done, it needs teh consent of both. |
