Bill: Legalizing Industrial Hemp

Details

Submitted by[?]: Green Socialists

Status[?]: passed

Votes: This is an ordinary bill. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.

Voting deadline: September 2187

Description[?]:

"Industrial hemp is an incredible resource. Hemp is harvested for its fibers for hemp clothing and seeds for hemp oil. With a relatively short growth cycle of 100-120 days, it is an efficient and economical crop for farmers to grow, however, industrial hemp cannot be commercially grown in the United States because it is erroneously confounded with marijuana. In fact, industrial hemp and marijuana are different breeds of Cannabis sativa. Smoking large amounts of hemp flowers can produce a headache but not a high!" http://www.hemp.com/

This bill will legalize the production and selling of industrial hemp.

MessageI am by no means proposing the legalization of recreational drugs in this bill.
I am just perplexed as to why our country would totally smother an entire wing of a potentially profitable and harmless industry like the hemp industry. Please add your suggestions, opinions, and questions. Thank you.

Message"Myth: Smoking Industrial Hemp gets a person high.

Reality: The THC levels in Industrial Hemp are so low that no one could get high from smoking it. Moreover, hemp contains a relatively high percentage of another cannabinoid, CBD, that actually blocks the marijuana high. Hemp, it turns out, is not only not marijuana; it could be called "anti-marijuana". " http://www.votehemp.com/myths_facts.html

MessageI am inclined to agree with this proposal. If it has been proven that it cannot be used to get high then i see no reason to prohibit its growth.
