MessageA sales tax is regressive but coupled with more progressive social policies a modest sales tax would circumvent tax avoidance and black markets, without putting too much of a strain on the poor and middle class.

Someone earning money through illegal black markets can avoid the income tax (or part of it) but they cannot avoid the sales tax when they buy groceries, clothes, or other commodities. It's a very effective tax and should be implemented on the condition that we use the proceeds for social programs and education - not the military and war.

MessageWe thank the SDP for their reasoned contribution. It is 3% -- the individual will feel nothing. Surely that is the heart of a socialist policy such as you might agree with? Only increasing tax for the wealthy will ultimately only decrease our tax revenue through avoidance.
