Message | Our party will not stand for a further widening of the budget deficit. We have just returned to surplus after a decade of debt. Our economy is doing well and does not require further stimulation which could only lead to spiraling interest rates and the erosion of consumer power. The proposal to reduce corporate tax is unwarranted and the ALP have failed to provide this Senate with a justifiable reason to do so. With respect to privatising the central bank, we will also vote against. It is important that the central bank operate as an independent third party separate from private interests. The Central Bank, whose board is appointed by the government as independents, is require to operate monetary policy to manage interest rates and the total supply of money in circulation in Aloria. A private enterprise would compromise the independence of this mission. Marcel Maier Finance Spokesperson - DA |

Message | These tax cuts would not plunge us into a deficit. We would continue to run a small surplus. Our party's aim is to scrap corporation tax eventually, as it does not help business, and it doesn't generate much tax revenue. However, we realise that would not get passed in the Senate, so we decided to compromise and propose a reduction to 5%. Would the DA be willing to vote in favour of this if the proposal to scrap the central bank is removed? Ellis Reece, Finance Minister |
