Bill: Religious Equality Act
Details
Submitted by[?]: Lodamese People's Progressive Party
Status[?]: passed
Votes: This is an ordinary bill. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.
Voting deadline: February 4222
Description[?]:
A relic of darker times, laws remain that not only mandate a state religion but curtail individuals' freedoms to criticize said religion. While we believe that the feelings of believers should be respected, this should neither be a privilege of any single group nor treated in excess of the protection afforded to any other personally held belief or cultural practice. The LP3 therefore proposes that the state afford equal treatment of all religions, distance itself from the endorsement of any single one, and permit people to express their opinion freely in private while normalizing penalties for public offenses against another's religion. |
Proposals
Article 1
Proposal[?] to change State penalties for blasphemy

Old value:: There is an official state religion, but membership is completely voluntary.
Current: There is no government policy concerning a state religion.
Proposed: There is no official state religion, but the government only allows recognized religions. 'Cults' are persecuted.

Message | On the treatment of cults, we do recognize a need for the state to monitor and if necessary rein in dangerous groups. While such a provision can be considered a backdoor to persecution, we propose to maintain it nonetheless, requiring strict and rigorous judicial and parliamentary oversight of such a ban or monitoring process. |

Message | Mr. Speaker, Whoever wrote this bill should be charged and executed for blasphemy for talking about "a relic of darker times" The state cannot treat all religions equally. The official religion is one where the state itself is held in high regard, and competing religions would be foreign entities competing with our state, inviting Luthorian and other influences into Lodamun. The state religion was designed by the state, and the state would be foolish to distance itself from it. Those who do not believe in Lodamese religion should not live in Lodamun. There are dozens of other countries. -- Linton Jager, Chairman of the GNRG, Trade/Industry Minister, Vice President of 2GDR Lodamun |

Message | To Linton Jager, Chairman of the GNRG, As we have emphasised in the past, there is nothing wrong with other religions. We should not oppress non-believers with no freedom of choice for other religions. In our opinion, the state should not at all be involved in religious affairs much, if at all. If anything, this bill does not go far enough to grant religious equality, however it is still a step in the right direction. Yours, Geogren Imwan, Party Leader of the SMP. |

Message | Mr. Speaker, I would like to warn those who speak words that sound like blaphemy and that tend to treason. My predecessors would have sentenced you to death sooner than one could spell 'Nationalism'. Also, let me state that Lodamese Nationalism is our state religion, but it is not the only religion permitted in our nation. It is these religions that are priviliged, not Nationalism. The state isn't getting involved in religion, I personally would like to prohibit all religions and install Lodamese Nationalism as the only possible ideology. Instead, we have offered those to believe differently a possibility to do so. I have witnessed our ideology to be misunderstood by other nations on several occasions, but never would I have thought that within the boundaries of our nation such idiotic words would be spoken out loud. I urge all parties to reconsider their vote and oppose to this astrocity at once. I personally doubt if I can hold my position if this bill passes. Message | To Farell Cariglioni, President of Lodamun, The SMP cannot understand why your party cannot embrace the modern era by accepting different cultures and religions. It tends to be that while Lodamese Nationalism is not the only permitted religion, it is certainly frowned upon to not follow it. One of our aims is to change this. We want a Lodamun that doesn't pressurise people into believing certain things. It's 4221, for Goodness' sake, forget Nationalism and let's give the citizens more liberty and equality. |

Message | Mr. Speaker, please let the anonimous member of SMP know that we would like anyone speaking in this Presidium is to follow the etiquet of the Preidium. econdly, if SMP speak about liberty and equality once again, I'll show them the definitions of these words. A party that doesn't undertand Lodamun has no place within our Presidium. Farell Cariglioni President of 2GDRL |

Message | Mr. Speaker, Please do stop acting like it's 3722. Things need to change now and then and that's exactly what has happened now this has passed. ---- Geogren Imwan, Leader of the SMP |
