| We believe that the current stance of the nation regrding "conscientious observers" is an insult to our military. Anyone can exclude themselves from their government mandated military service simply by claiming their religion has some obscure rule against violence. We tolerated the delusion of a higher power, but no longer. The word of some imaginary figure does not govern the people, the government does and the government demands all citizens to preform a to preform a year of service to the military. |

Old value:: Conscientious objectors can be exempted, but only on religious grounds.
Current: Conscientious objectors can be exempted from combatant roles, but not from non-combatant roles.
Proposed: It is a criminal offence to refuse to perform military service.

| Message | The Peace and Justice party commends our honorable colleagues in their proposition of a bill that will preserve national unity. For too long have religious exemptions to military service have undermined the fraternity of our nation. Our party does not consider conscientious objection a civil right, we consider it as dereliction of the civil duty necessary to preserve civil rights. That said, we will oppose the establishment of any custodial sentencing, penalties should be limited to community service or an as of yet unspecified mechanism of public shaming. |
