Electoral Commission: Under the Local Government Departmental Act 4219, local council elections are published every four years. Councillors are selected to five councils, one in each state. In total there are 500 councillors in each council bringing the national total to 2500. Councillors are elected using the first-past-the-post electoral system and may appear different to the general election results due to a different term scale, a different electoral system and voters differing behaviour in elections to local government. Election results from the May 4228 local elections are as follows: Turnout: 25.2% Party: Seats Won (Change) -----------------------------Vote Share Conservative Party: 931 (+381) ------------------------ 29.2% Liberal Democrats: 452 (+95) --------------------------- 20.8% Conservative & Centralist Coalition: 419 (-177) ---- 15.4% Social Democratic Party: 408 (-366) ------------------ 15.1% Popular Revolutionary Party: 173 (-32) --------------- 10.5% Liberal Party: 117 (+99) ----------------------------------- 9.0% |
