Bill: P.d.l. 5/4233: "Trees, not Profit"

Details

Submitted by[?]: Partito Radicale

Status[?]: passed

Votes: This is an ordinary bill. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.

Voting deadline: July 4234

Description[?]:

"Trees are vitally important to our ecology and by this we mean our national survival, health and wellbeing. We must put the careful management of ecosystems and our environment before the profit-making motive. Sustainable management is not compatible with the concept of private companies which only think about maximising the amount of money they make. Let's take back control of one of the most precious resources that we have."

- Liana La Raia, Parliamentarian

MessageBeniamino Massa, AI Whip,

Yes lets kill small business once again. Let us force them to pay more for trees than their actual prOject. Furthermore the first article completely aligns with the cause of the tragedy of the commons. If forestry is the main source of income of a company, will it give it all away at once, or will have a constant income over years. It is not just a logging opportunity, but also tourism and science. The government does not have this huge incentive to care for forests, it is called profit.

MessageHaruan Al-Sahel:

"there is something called "common goods" and "biodiversity", something even more important than the profit and which can be an engine as well as the profit. And the tragedy into the tropical forests and the perpetual destruction of even more forestal territories is a proof about the fact that an activity leads only by profit tends to exploit at maximum the resurces in the less time possible to profit today, not in years and years."

MessageBeniamino Massa, Leader of AI,

We simply do not agree. Rain forest oh so often is owned by government, which carelessly sells the rights to logging to other companies. So they obviously exploit that right. But if the forest itself is their source of income, as it is owned by the company and grown and cared after by the company, there is a completely different attitude to it.

MessageMarco Rovigo, Minister of Trade and Industry

"Leader of AI, Mr. Massa, is promoting a fearmongering campaign, falsely accusing the government of exploitation of its own regulations. But if you read carefully your comment Mr. Massa, you can see you contradict yourself. As you said, the government "carelessly" sells the logging rights to companies who do the work. The companies obviously have some income, otherwise they wouldn't be doing it. If these companies make a profit from the forest, they should, as Mr. Massa said, take care of the forest. As we can see today, private unregulated companies, who Mr. Massa thinks will care about the forests, deforestated half the planet. They only cared about profit and didn't invest in the sustainability of their field. It seems that in the end government has to take some affirmative actions to stop the further deforestation of our home planet.
And I would like to ask mr. Massa to stop relying on emotions and fear of progress as arguments agains "leftist" bills."
