Bill: Prisoner's of War
Details
Submitted by[?]: Libertad y Justicia
Status[?]: passed
Votes: This is an ordinary bill. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.
Voting deadline: January 2188
Description[?]:
The current law states that the capture of POW's in times of war means that we must instantly return these POW's to their respective nations. Most POW's are actually enemy combatants that surrendered/were captured. It makes no sense, in this regard, to resupply our enemies. Instead, I propose that we retain the POW's until the conclusion of the war. In addition, we should treat them well, in accordance with our anti-torture legislation and international standards. |
Proposals
Article 1
Proposal[?] to change The government's policy regarding the treatment of prisoners of war.
Old value:: Prisoners of war are immediately returned to their own government.
Current: Prisoners of war may be mistreated without legal sanction.
Proposed: Prisoners of war must be treated well, according to internationally-accepted standards.

Message | The main points of opposition: *Humans are not bargaining chips. *If POWs are returned home, there is no guarantee that the enemy will return them. Even if they do, it will require them to expend resources that they otherwise wouldnt. *It is cheaper to send POWs home than to keep them according to international standards. *We can take the moral highground on the international scene. *POWs will be more compliant when offered with a trip home than otherwise. |
