"I put before parliament two progressive proposals which would ensure that all Istalians have access to affordable places to live, whether they be rented in the private sector or from the state. The current system means that the state subsidises wealthy landlords who seek to exploit those on low-incomes by setting extremely high rents. It also means that more well-off renters may also struggle to pay rent. This new system would address these issues by make housing more affordable to rent as well as offering an economic boost in the form of a public house building program. Istalians work hard and they deserve home which they can afford to live in."

This makes my economist heart shrink in disappointment, as it will achieve nothing but a housing shortage, as land lords will be unwilling to rent out homes. The state builiding houses is a good question, but We believe the private sector allocates resources more efficiently and therefore housing should stay private.
