Bill: The Minimum Wage Bill 4239
Details
Submitted by[?]: Nationale Liberale Partei
Status[?]: defeated
Votes: This bill proposes the withdrawal from a treaty. It will require half of the legislature to vote in favor[?]. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.
Voting deadline: February 4241
Description[?]:
Our Current Minimum Wage is far too high. A wage is considered as the "price of labour" and so we are mandating that work must cost a certain amount. This prices younger workers who are less qualified and experienced out of the market as employers have to pay an excessive amount to hire these. These factors have pushed many employers to push for more automation and to hire more experienced and qualified workers. When our youth leave university, many will find it difficult to get into the job market. |
Proposals
Article 1
Withdraw from the Worker's Basic Rights Agreement.
Article 2
Proposal[?] to change The nation's policy on minimum wage regulation.
Old value:: There shall be a minimum wage at a level considered a "living wage," well above the poverty line for a full time worker.
Current: There shall be a minimum wage at a level that a single full time worker on it can adequately subsist.
Proposed: There is no provision for a minimum wage.

Message | We are currently bound by the "Worker's Basic Rights Agreement" meaning it is not possible to eliminate the minimum wage all together therefore we have settled on lowering it to a somewhat acceptable standard. |

Message | Article 1 of this bill has now been added. The article details an intention to withdraw from the "Workers Basic Rights Agreement". It was drafted by the now defunct "Peoples Communist Party" approximately 35 years ago and clearly has not aged well. Article 2 may be modified to completely remove the minimum wage provided that parties express support for this. |

Message | Good to have found some common ground with the KUP. Perhaps with a grand coalition of like-minded conservative parties we may finally withdraw from the agreement. |

Message | Frankly, I fail to understand your opposition to minimum wage. The treaty HAS aged well -- it guarantees BASIC rights! Mimimum wage, equal treatment for foreigners, the optional existence of trade unions... it insures the workers are represented but does not limit choice -- there are almost always a wide range of options! This was perhaps the VPs greatest achievement and we stand by it totally. Opposition to the workers is opposition to the people! Louis Vieweg Trade and Industry Minister LP Hear, hear! LP members |
