Bill: Organ Donations

Details

Submitted by[?]: Telamon Social Democratic Party

Status[?]: defeated

Votes: This is an ordinary bill. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.

Voting deadline: November 2189

Description[?]:

We do not wish to force anyone to donate organs, but we feel that the default option should be one with greater benefits for society as a whole. Naturally opting out of donating organs should be very easy and simple for any religious or other reasons.

MessageIt still requires someone to opt out though, which they may forget to do etc. The state doesn't have the right to simply assume things like this about its citizens, it should be the incumbent upont the citizen to consent rather than the state simply assuming consent unless told otherwise (and I can think of a really terrible analogy but i don't think i'll share that!!)

MessageState is forced to assume things. We are simply choosing whether we assume that people donate their organs after death, or do we _assume_ that they do not. Forgetting etc. apply in both cases (but if people forget to opt-in, someone because of lack of organs, in the other case no-one dies [we tend to value lives of our fellow citizens])

The state continuously assumes scores of things of all its citizens, we simply must democratically choose which things are assumed. And the state most certainly has the right to assume things like these (if you consider that it has not, please do provide an argument to support your claim).

Random fact: Voters have an extra appreciation for bills that actually get passed, so if you want to maximally take profit from your votes, make sure you compromise with others.
