Message | Beniamino Massa, AI Leader, No no no, this is horrible. Imagine a situation which I personally have been in when I still was producing cars. You have a deadline, you have to deliver by said deadline, and the day before the whole crew goes on strike without reasonable reason (demanding a pay rise is not a valid reason if the pay is at agreed amount and above the minimum wage). So ultimately, on the next day, the order cannot be delivered and we do not get any money. So the employer has to fire workers anyway as he cannot pay their wages after not delivering the order, which would generate revenue. So everyone loses. The current status allows for strikes to punish bad employers, whilst being fair to those, who simply cannot pay more, but obey all laws and have to get the order ready. This is vital for industries which deliver "just in time". |

Message | Lavinia Maggi: "asking a pay rise is not a valid reason? And if the workers realized that the minimum wage is not enough for the work which they do? And with such a statement should means what? That any employee should work only for the minimum wage? It is a legittime motivation the one to strike for a better salary and it is a strategic decision the one to block the production. The strike means this: to block the production of the employers to force him to hear and accept the requests by the workers. But other think: the law it is clear, the Union Trades organize the strikes and the union trades needs of the majority of the members who approve the strike to organize it. And as said, ask for a better salary it is not a not valid reason, it is among the most important and common reason to strike! We cannot work into a Government and allow that the Nation will fall in such situation. It is not possible." |

Message | Beniamino Massa, AI Leader, As mentioned, it puts everyone in a bad situation, as the employer will not be able to deliver on time, and will not receive revenue, so won't be able to pay wages and will have to make workers redundant. If the pay is not appropriate due to it not keeping up with inflation, then it is a valid reason indeed, and that is ensured by the current law. However allowing strikes all the time would make Istalia into a trade union controlled state. |

Message | Matteo Fogghi, FR Whip Mr Massa, may we ask you, what are those unreasonable reasons? |
Date | 14:14:52, July 13, 2017 CET | From | Partito Nazionale Democratico | To | Debating the P.d.l. 6/4240: Freedom of Workers |
Message | Beniamino Massa, AI Leader, The main unreasonable reason, is when the employer follows all health and safety and labour laws, and the employees have signed a work contract where they agree to a certain wage, which is above the minimum wage, and despite all this, the workers go on strike to block the work of the business. If there was a surge in inflation, then it remains a valid reason to strike, but In a case where wages have just recently been increased, it is not. |

Message | Beniamino Massa, AI Leader, The unions are rubbing their hands right now. And employers are shaking their heads. This is a tragic defeat of liberal economics. We are deeply saddened. |
