Bill: PSS omnibus II

Details

Submitted by[?]: Likaton Fascist Front

Status[?]: passed

Votes: This is an ordinary bill. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.

Voting deadline: September 2188

Description[?]:

The AM PSS asks the convocation to consider the following.

1. We ask the convocation to consider this request again. Removing exotic animals from established ecosystems is damaging to the environment.

2. As far as research goes, this is science. We should be doing more to allow our scientists the freedom and latitude to do what is necessary for research without any unecessary government regulation.

3. Sales tax on Luxury items. As more luxury items are generally purchased by the wealthy we feel this is not an unreasonable request. This will in turn lead to an easing of the taxes on the poorer parts of our society.

4. This change is to allow our media to operate freely. If Media prints falsehoods it is natural that the reputation of that media outlet will fall, affecting ratings/market share etc. Rather than have the Media operate under the current restrictive laws we suggest removal to allow the market to regulate itself.

5. Likatonia is becoming a country aware of the rest of Terra. As such the cost of administering the current laws is something we can dispense with. We feel that Likatonia's population is sufficiently cosmopolitan to accept foriegn media - before censorship.

6. A national decision about sex education is a very 'one size fits all' solution. The PSS feel that the level of and indeed decision to enforce sex education is something best left to the schools concerned. <REMOVED>

MessageWhat would be considered a luxury item? If a "luxury item" is determined to be anything and everything other than food or clothing, the luxury tax would end up hurting the middle class more than it would the upper class. Maybe a luxury tax would be more appropriate for goods with a LIK value exceeding something like 10K.

MessageThe AM AAP feels somewhat like the victim of poison-pill legislation here...

We TOTALLY support Articles 1,2 and 4.

We TOTALLY oppose Article 6.

We are strongly opposed to Article 3, although we could be convinced by a good argument.

We have no strong opinions about Article 5.... indeed, in the light of passage of Article 4, Article 5 would become effectively redundant.

We ask that - at the very least - AM PSS separate Article 6. We could be swayed on Article 3, but we suspect we MUST oppose if Article 6 remains in the bill.

MessageTo the PP - We cannot place a minimum value on Luxury items, however we consider the following items 'Luxury' - Houses 50% above average market value, Cars of a sports car/luxury nature, second house purchases for investment. We would suggest we are in the same league, if not the same ballpark as the PP.

MessageThe AM AAP is gratified by the consideration of the AM PSS, and we are swayed by their argument sufficient that we shall support even Article 3 at this time.

Random fact: Moderation will not accept Cultural Protocol updates which introduce, on a significant scale, cultures which are likely to be insufficiently accessible to players. In particular, for all significant cultures in Particracy, it should be easy for players to access and use online resources to assist with language translation and the generation of character names. Moderation reserves the right to amend Cultural Protocols which are deemed to have introduced significant cultures that are not sufficiently accessible and which are not being actively role-played with.
