| Article 1 The Dux shall be elected for life by the August Senate with a two thirds vote of all Senators necessary. In between elections the Princeps Senatus shall serve as head of state. Article 2 The Dux's authority is hereby limited by the need for a counter signature by a responsible Executive Magistrate (Minister) for each of his public actions except in the case of the following reserve powers: - Appointment of caretakers of the hallowed places. - Granting of certain royal honours.excluding societal rank. - Administration of the Ducal Household except for alienation of Ducal property - Any other actions authorised by the Constitution and law. Article 3 The Dux may take initiative in the conduct of foreign policy but must act within the general direction dictated by the August Senate. Article 4 The Dux as supreme commander of the Duchy's armed forces must act on the advice of the Magister Militum (Minister of Defence) and the directions and dictates of the August Senate |
