Bill: Refugee and ID Card Reform

Details

Submitted by[?]: Shuggoth Progressive Party

Status[?]: passed

Votes: This is an ordinary bill. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.

Voting deadline: November 2189

Description[?]:

1. A national ID card is an unwarranted invasion of privacy for our citizens, and is prone to too much abuse. We already have plenty of alternative documents that can be used to establish a person's identification.

2. Luthori has a history of being sympathetic to the plight of refugees. Our current criteria for admitting them however is overly strict. Given the current situation in Dundorf in particular, it is time to relax the refugee criteria somewhat. Please note that the integration aid mentioned in the bill only applies to *refugees*, and not to all immigrants.

MessageWe need to think about this one. What is the definition of a refugee, if not 'victims of extreme circumstances'?

MessageRefugee: A person who has been forced to leave their country in order to escape war, persecution, or natural disaster.

I support this bill, as there is a nation in northern Artania that doesn't give its citizens a certain right. If its citizens come here to have that right, I want to help them. And I think the CUP would too. (Think Atheistic State).

MessageBut how do we control immigration if 'All refugees are welcome, regardless of their reason'?

MessageThe point is not to "control" the immigration of refugees. The point is to give them a safe harbor. We give them integration aid. And then when they are on their feet, we have new contributors to our economy.

One can assume that they will be starting off doing our least desireable jobs, so it also helps businesses fill those hard to staff jobs. We do the morally right thing by letting them in; and we get more tax revenue, a higher GDP, and help our businesses too. It's a win-win!

MessageIn order to participate in a good bit of anti-Dundorf roleplay we'll go for this.
