Bill: Space Exploration Act (2188)
Details
Submitted by[?]: Deltarian Nationalist Party
Status[?]: defeated
Votes: This is an ordinary bill. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.
Voting deadline: May 2190
Description[?]:
To ensure the money that the government invests in space exploration is spent efficiently we propose that the government runs it's own space program seperate to those of private companies. This would ensure the government has complete control over the money it spends. This will not prevent any private company building and developing technology but it will not recieve government funding except under special circumstances. |
Proposals
Article 1
Proposal[?] to change Government policy towards space exploration.
Old value:: The government shall operate a space agency that contracts with and oversees private space-exploration companies.
Current: The government shall issue permits to private space-exploration companies.

Message | Explain how this would be cost effective and where the money for this will come from? Which ministries will have their funding cut to pay for the infrastructure needed for a public space project? Or which taxes are you going to have to raise to do this? |

Message | Waaaayyy to expensive. We would point out that government already has complete control over the money it currently spends on space exploration as the government agency "contracts with and oversees private space-exploration companies". At no point within that description does it say that "the national space agency must utilise private contractors". All it allows us to do is utilise private skills should they be required and to guarantee that private companies do not turn space into a free-for-all. |

Message | But if we are paying for private contracts then there will be more spent in administartion costs rather than on the program itself. |

Message | The main point being *if*, there is nothing saying we *are*. All it does is allow the national agency the choice and allows for us to direct the private agencies into areas where they could be of advantage. |

Message | So at the moment there is no space agency? |
Date | 23:05:43, February 21, 2006 CET | From | We Say So! Party | To | Debating the Space Exploration Act (2188) |
Message | We have a space agency that operates its own exploration missions and coordinates with and oversees private agencies. |
