Bill: Museum Musings
Details
Submitted by[?]: Libertarian Alcoholic Party II
Status[?]: defeated
Votes: This is an ordinary bill. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.
Voting deadline: June 2191
Description[?]:
Museums are pretty expensive. If they were run for-profit, not by the government, they'd be a lot less of a tax burden. And come on, how many people actually go to museums? If they do, do they ever go to the same museum twice? Are museums really worth the government money which could be spent on health, police coverage or other tubular services and utlities? Or just used by taxpayers themselves to buy normal, everyday things which they actually want? Plus, the current legislation implies that the government just gives money to any organization which wants a museum. What if the LAP wants to found the Rutanian Museum of Drinking and Substance Abuse? (we will try to if this legislation is not changed). Is that a useful application of government funds? We think so, but do YOU? |

Old value:: The government gives monetary grants to organizations which have established or are looking to establish museums.

Message | I have to disagree with my other libertarian colleagues. I believe that the government granting of monetary funds to museums is needed in order to keep these places operating. Most museums are either owned by city governments or private non-profit trusts which often have to make most of their money from donations. I believe that if we take all government money out of museums it will hurt further development and upgrading of museums and the building of new museums. |

Message | But why does that really matter? Lots of people don't go to museums. |
