| OOC: After several discussions with various players around Artania, and some in Dorvik. We've decided to try something out. As some of you might know, some of you might not. Several centuries ago in-game there was a financial crisis RP'd at the time where the Lodamese Dollar (the in-game equivalent to the US Dollar) had a real bad time. Artanian Union nations (and several other AU nations) got together and basically decided that we needed a new reserve currency, hence the Artanian Mark was developed. The Artanian Mark prospered at first but eventually, floundered off due to a variety of reasons (including, primarily, an RP come back of the LOD). After having several new discussions with players, myself and DAF are proposing, as a means to increase Dorvik's stance in the world as well as economically set us apart from anyone else, we introduce the Artanian Mark as the national currency in place of the Dorvish Dolgar. For those wondering, the Dorvish Dolgar to Lodamese Dollar exchange rate is currently .1829 which means, our economy is basically in the crapper. If we were to switch to the Artanian Mark, what would happen is this: The Artanian Central Bank would set a fixed, un-changeable conversion rate of 1 Dorvish Dolgar to 1 Artanian Mark, with this, we would see a tremendous increase in our economy and realistically, the power that Dorvik projects would increase substantially. Not only that, it would be a fun RP to have even for a little while or permanently into the future. The conversion from there would work as follows: We would use the current US Dollar to Euro exchange rate, currently sitting at .84 which means that instead of doing 1 Dorvish Dolgar to 1 Lodamese Dollar at .1829 we would do 1 Dorvish Dolgar to 1 Artanian Mark at .84 which would be a HUGE boost to our economy. Our GDP would go from the following: 1,522,159,352,132 DDO to 278,402,945,505 Lodamese Dollars 1,522,159,352,132 DDO to 1,278,613,855,790.88 Artanian Marks I think this is a great RP move and I have several other countries on Artania interested in potentially making the switch as well. | Message | President, Why should we let the general population, most of whom haven't studied anything remotely related to global and/or domestic economics, vote on matters that are way too complex for them to comprehend? Do we really want a discussion like this, a discussion that should be done on the highest intellectual levels, to be simplified to horrible one-liners and to be dominated by prejudice and stupidity? Let professionals deal with the Artanian Mark. I am guessing that the KRA is just sucking up to the electorate for the next elections or they want to sabotage the globalization of the Artanian economy through ' democratic ' means while horribly abusing the system we have in place for popular votes. Both the SNP and the DAF have the support of the majority of the population, a population which knew that we support Artanian Mark, so a new vote shouldn't even be necessary.
