Description[?]:
The CDR/LDA proposes alterations to the outdated, and ridiculous legislation that Aloria currently has regarding marriage and divorce. By leaving these policies to local governments, we create a risk that these authorities could introduce laws that could be discriminatory. Article 1: The Legality of Divorces By leaving the power to decide upon the legality of divorces to the local governments, we risk cases where a more authoritarian-led council could restrict divorce, even in times when one partner is being abused, or taken advantage of, by their spouse. Whilst we have the utmost trust in our current Councillors, we must recognise the potential of people with ulterior motives using this legislation to place an extremist manifesto within their area. It is our responsibility to prevent this, and a change in the law would be the most effective solution to this problem. Article 2: The Government's Policy Regarding Foreign Marriages This article allows the potential for xenophobic and discriminatory behaviour from local authorities. By giving them freedom of restricting foreign marriages, we are decreasing tolerance and diversity. Again, whilst most local government officials would not dream of enacting such policy, we must be wary that some do, and for that reason, we should seek this alteration in the law. The CDR/LDA urges this august Senate to back this reform, to provide Aloria with a safety net against potential discriminatory behaviour, and bring this legislation into the power of the government. We hope all parties will support this amendment to the law.
