MessageWhile we appreciate the reduction in the budget, we do feel that such a significant decrease in our military funding is shortsighted. The AFP however is willing to support a budget which increases, leaves untouched, or at the very least only introduces modest cuts to the military budget.

MessageWe too support the concept of the reduction in budget. Smaller government is key, and reducing unnecessary funds is one path to help us achieve that. However, we feel that these cuts are not thought through. Our party recognises that some people will initially be worse off as a consequence to cuts, and for that reason we need to plan through reducing government spending.

Further, the CDR/LDA believes that leaving ourselves so poorly defended is not a wise move. Whilst we would hope to never have to use military action, to slash the defence budget by almost 90% is dangerous, and puts at risk the people that our parties have a duty to protect.

MessageI apologise. The quoting of the 90% figure is inaccurate, as that actually refers to the decrease in the finance budget, which is also disturbing. The actual slash of the defence budget is a staggering 99.5%.

MessageWhilst we are in favour of reducing government spending, we don't think these cuts have been considered properly. Like other parties, we are concerned about the scale of the proposed cuts to defence.
