Bill: Control of Alcohol: Local Option Act

Details

Submitted by[?]: Hizb Altahaluf/Partito dell'Alleanza

Status[?]: defeated

Votes: This is an ordinary bill. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.

Voting deadline: December 4269

Description[?]:

As a party based on Ahmadi values, we strongly oppose the consumption of alcohol. Whilst we accept the majority of Istalian society takes a different position on this issue, we do believe it is right that majority Ahmadi towns and villages should have the option to prohibit it. Local communities who do not want the alcohol culture should not be forced to confirm to it.

MessageIstalia is a nation in which religion and state are strictly seperated. This bill allows local governments to pass legislation based on religious doctrine. We can not support that.

MessageGiorgia Mulino, Whip of LP:

"we have to agree with our collegues of AVP. We think that in village with a majority of ahmadis, if the owner of the retail activities, of the restaurants and the local citizens don't want sell or buy alcohol, nobody force them. But if an istalians from another region or city, passing through this village, want to purchaise something like alcohol and there is someone disponible to sell it, we don't think that this infringe the sensibility of no one.
The respect of the religious belief, we think, is something which rely on the interested person only. If I was an ahmadi and I would follow the religion doctrine, I think that as good ahmadi, I have, myself first of all, to not drink alcohol.
But we cannot accept claims like "I don't want see all this", "it infringe my sensibility", "etc...", because we cannot oblige everyone to follow this or that religious doctrine when this is clearly a particular interests. Also if would be the Hosians to ask someone like this, we cannot accept also if is the vast majority, because the religious beliefs are something of too personal and which cannot be used to enforce particular laws, because the Law should be universal, equal and fair for everybody.

Thank you"

Random fact: "Treaty-locking", or ratifiying treaties that completely or nearly completely forbid any proposals to change laws, is not allowed. Amongst other possible sanctions, Moderation reserves the discretion to delete treaties and/or subject parties to a seat reset if this is necessary in order to reverse a treaty-lock situation.
