MessageWe feel Istalia needs a national minimum standard for water quality, and for this reason we oppose simply devolving responsibility for water regulation to local government.

We sympathise with those who want to see better animal welfare standards in farming. However, we question whether more regulation is the way to go, because the danger is it will push up food prices, and as we all know, that hurts the poorest the hardest. We feel it would be better to accomplish these goals through more public education and giving consumers more rights to know the details of how their food is sourced. Cultural change and consumer pressure are the forces most likely to improve the life of farm animals.

MessageHonourable members of the Parliament,

Local responsibility for drinking water regulation is better than the current policy, since the local governments know best about their regional drinking water provisions and their abilities. Nationalising all this intel and then distributing it again to the local governments is a time consuming process that is anything but usefull.

As concerned animal welfare, this proposed change does not have any norms regarding the use of expensive machines of special equipent for animal treatment. Those rules have already been included in the current law, which all Istalian farmers already meet, and we propose to enlarge the current legislation around it. Our proposal is to have the farmers use suffer-free sedatives for animals before their butchery. See, the current used sedatives are only for animals not to react aggressivly when isolated, but they still feel pain when being brought to death for butchering. The new proposed sedatives prevent such pain and ensure these animals can be brought asleep in a peacefull way. Furthermore, the sedatives are relativly cheap, but most farmers dont yet use it because it takes a little longer (5-7 minutes) to work.

Thank you,
Nicola Azuritanno, Minister of Environment and Tourism

MessageArno Massa, AI Speaker for Food and Agriculture,

In a choice between us, humans, and them, animals, we will always choose the quality of life of humans over any animal. The voters now know that officially.

Thank you.

MessageIt takes a lot of narrow-minded conservative thinking to believe fighting for animal rights is the same as choosing between humans and animals.

Random fact: Party candidates for head of state elections are not visible to the public. This means that you cannot see who will run and who will not, which adds another strategic element to the elections.
