Message | Herr Huspresident, I have been directed by Ms Hægeland to present to Stortinget the current state of the negotiations between herself and her counterpart from the Crownlands. The Minister herself continues to remain in Karlstadt deep in negotiations, and as such was not able to present the state of affairs to Stortinget herself, and would like me to convey her deepest apologies as such. Herr Huspresident, the Crownlands has accepted a proposal from Ms Hægeland to allow movement of citizens across our borders following the signing of any peace treaty. This is due to the concerns that our government has had in regards to the rights of citizens that the Crownlands currently classify as Class C citizens, and how the transfer of the area formally referred to as Statvinger back to the Crownlands would affect them. Naturally, while citizens of Statvinger, all resident in the occupied zone were regarded as equal to all Kazulian citizens and granted the same rights as all others. I am sure members present would agree with myself and the minister the discomfort that would occur in merely handing citizens back over for them to lose rights they have enjoyed for the past 10 years of occupation. Thus, the Crownlands accepted the proposal from the minister to allow free movement of citizens across our borders. This would allow those citizens in Statvinger who would prefer to remain Kazulian citizens to cross over, but would - as is the compromise - also allow citizens of Kazulmark who regard themselves as of Hulstrian heritage to become citizens of the Crownlands if they so see fit. The Minister believed this to be a fair deal, and would allow all citizens of our two nations to exercise their freedom to choose where they belong. The second proposal accepted by the Crownlands is to reform their citizenship laws before the next elected - due in 4278 - and the Minister emphasises that Kazulmark shall pay close attention to this. This is a demand on which we have the full backing of the world community, and the Crownlands are more than aware of that fact. The hope, Herr Huspresident, is thus that we are able to create some good from the mess of the brief war and occupation that has transpired. Hopefully, we will set in place a peaceful solution that will last the test of time, and will also benefit both nations' citizens. I now open the floor to debate on the Minister's current situation, any critiques members may have, and any suggestions that may be passed to the negotiating team. Random fact: It is not allowed to call more than 5 elections in 5 game years in a nation. The default sanction for a player persisting in the early election tactic will be a seat reset. |
