Bill: Opt-Out Organ Donation Bill
Details
Submitted by[?]: Pirate Party
Status[?]: passed
Votes: This is an ordinary bill. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.
Voting deadline: May 4293
Description[?]:
People don't often think about organ donation which is why there's a lack of organs ready to transplant. This new system would mean that those who are passionately against organ donation could still opt out but those who want to or do not care are already registered. |
Proposals
Article 1
Proposal[?] to change The government's policy concerning organ donations.
Old value:: Organ donations are legal with personal consent.
Current: Organ donation is universal and compulsory.
Proposed: Unless otherwise stated, consent is assumed.

Message | So, euthanasia is totally legal without the consent of the patient following this proposal? |

Message | This bill concerns organ donation not euthanasia. |

Message | I didn't mean that. If someone wants to give its organ(s) to anyone that he/she doesn't know, (in most cases), it's his/her decision, not state decision. |

Message | When members of the LSP die due to a lack of organs available for donation we hope they will change their stance on this issue. |

Message | We won't, not just because we like the fact of watching our party members dying, we are not saying no to donations, hopefully there are people who will be avaliable for an organ donation, but if the patient doesn't want to give its organs to another person, it's the patient decision, no the state or doctor decision (though we can recommend them to do it if we think it's a good idea to donate organs). |

Message | Hence why we're proposing to allow people to opt-out rather than having a compulsory system. |

Message | "Unless otherwise stated, consent is assumed." that's not what I mean. Patient has the decision of choosing an option: donate or not donate, if you support this, you don't support the patient's full right of choosing, since other people would choose for you in some cases. |

Message | There is a small problem with this, organs are dangerous, if you just take someone organs without consent he maybe infected with a disease and doctors wouldnt be able to tell, say you take a liver out of a roadkill, he may know he is HIV positive but tests will neve tell that, only the victim of the transplant. In other words this is a bit rash |

Message | Does Kafe Commune really believe that the health service does not record the data and records of its patients? Of course doctors and surgeons would know if the deceased had a serious transmittable illness. OOC: What country doesn't keep medical records?? |

Message | Its the same protocol applied for blood donations, you can go trough all the process and even pass all lab tests but at the end, after they take your blood they give you a simple sheet of paper with a question. Do you believe the donation you just made is safe?. In the end every individual may keep a reason deep inside not to donate organs. If we make it obligatory we maybe puting alredy sick people in danger |

Random fact: Cabinet ministers who disagree seriously with the head of government would usually be expected to resign. Parties within the cabinet may attempt to manoeuvre to replace the head of government though, for example by proposing a new cabinet bill or voting for an early election. |
